Hycu were formed in 1999 and originally consisted of Michael Noyce on guitar and vocals, drummer Brett Shelfer, Tim Edwards on lead guitar and Jamie Kluckers on bass. They spent much of 1999 perfecting their live act in various venues along the South Cost, including Cheers, Trax 2 and the Steyne in Bognor, the Inn on the Beach in Hayling Island and the Freebutt in Brighton.

Later that year the band recorded their first EP at Bob Ross studios in Portsmouth, entitled "Confused", comprising 4 tracks; Confused, Planet Girls, Lonely Girl and Summer Song.

In 2000, they returned to the studio and recorded "Somewhere There" which included 5 more songs. They continued to play live at every oppotunity including Sands of Time festival At the begining of 2001 they managed to break into the American market - a presenter on the KBVR Corvallis radio station in Oregon contacted then via thier website and Hycu gained a prominent place on the play list, thanks to high demand from listeners in the University town.

This, together with a growing army of local fans, encouraged the lads to revisit the studio and record there first album "Broken". Early in 2002 Jamie decided to concentrate on his studies and the band recruited 18 year old Dan Williams to take his place. Their first gig with Dan was at Cheers bar in Bognor Regis in March 2002, In 2003 they recorded more music and now have over 25 original tracks recorded. When they played live they blended live original material with some rock favourites borrowing songs from the likes of Greenday, and David Bowie.

The Band draw inspiration from a diverse range, including Joe Satuani, Stone Roses, Bob Dylan to name but a few. Hycu’s music is highly original. Lot’s of rock anthems, some great guitar melodies, and some just funny like Hippy Freak and Uncles Jack’s burger bar. In 2018 "Next 4 Miles" consists of unreleased tracks all re-mastered by Abbey Road Studios.
